Heart Smarts Training Results in Statistical Significance in Improving Gifted Seventh Grade Students Achievement Aptitudes, Interpersonal Skills, and Mental Attitudes
Summary: This preliminary study evaluated 34
students, in a seventh grade class of gifted students outside of a
large metropolitan Southern City. These students were
evaluated before and after an intervention called “Heart Smart”.
This population consisted of Hispanic students who were bilingual
with Spanish spoken as the primary language in the majority of the
homes. To look at possible effects of training these students
were evaluated one week before the training and one week after the
training.
Overview of Inventory of Personal Skills for Achievement (Action Skills, Interpersonal Skills, and Mental Attitudes) Between Academic Achievers, Normal, and At-Risk Middle School Students
Summary: This study of the Inventory of
Personal Skills for Achievement (IPSA) shows the ability of the test
to differentiate between academic achievers, normal achievers, and
academically at-risk middle school students through the use of
scales that reveal achievement action skills, interpersonal skills,
and mental attitudes. The
subjects for this study consisted of 4176 students with teacher of
academically identified high achievers (n=502), normal achievers
(n=3065), and academically at-risk (n=575) students.
The students were 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th
graders from 26 school in 8 states from the Northern, Central,
and Southern regions of the United States. from grades 5, 6, 7 and
8; from 26 schools in 8 states from the North, South, Central, and
South Regions of the United States. Both rural and urban schools
were represented with populations of White, Black, Hispanic,
Oriental, and Native Americans or Eskimos
